The dominant Shia Muslim coalition is trying to pass the law as an amendment to the “personal status law” which effectively would allow grown men to marry young girls and have all family decisions in the hands of religious authorities, the idea is being called a catastrophe for women. Frankly I’m wondering why there’s going to be a vote, I thought all they did was issue a fatwa and get it over with. Just the thought that this is even being discussed is disgusting.
